What is the longest road trip on the OKC Thunder 2023-24 schedule?
By Alex Mcewen
After spending the past few season’s away from Paycom Center for the season finale, the schedule makers were kind to the OKC Thunder, and they will spend their final five games at home this season. However, if you thought the homestretch was going to be easy think again; because the OKC Thunder will embark on their longest road trip of the season during the final two weeks of the 2023-24 regular season.
The longest road trip of the 2023-24 OKC Thunder regular season schedule
This is certainly a murders row of road games for the Oklahoma City Thunder as they start to unwind the regular season. Though, on the bright side for the Bricktown boys, the Thunder will head east for their longest road trip. Not only are the teams closer together, but the time zone hurdle is more manageable:
- March 31st: At New York Knicks
- April 2nd: At Philadelphia 76ers
- April 3rd: At Boston Celtics
- April 5th: At Indiana Pacers
- April 7th: At Charlotte Hornets
Because the OKC Thunder’s longest road trip is an odd-number of games, they will return home with a winning record or a losing record. Late season games are such a toss-up, some of these teams could be eliminated from playoff/play-in contention, and some could be locked into their spots.
Therefore, although the Sixers and Celtics will likely be at the top of the conference, they could be locked in their spot, meaning they could opt to rest some of their best players, in preparation for the playoffs.
A quick note, the OKC Thunder will be playing Philly and Boston on a back-to-back, the league average this season for back-to-backs per team is nine. Unfortunately, the OKC Thunder did not draw a favorable hand, because they will play 14 back-to-backs. Making the number of back-to-backs a double whammy, the OKC Thunder will play eight of the 14 during the second-half of the year, and six sets during the span of their final 30 games.
Moreover, in terms of road trips in general the team will embark on three four-game road tips. Their most difficult stretch of road games will be in January, where out of 17 games, only five will be at home inside Paycom Center, and two of those five will be their final two games of the month, yikes.
