Jalen Williams shares tongue-in-cheek take on latest season-high achievement

The Thunder stud is still not happy!

All season long the OKC Thunder have been one of the most dominant teams in virtually every statistical category.

From ranking in the top 10 in points per game to number one in steals, Oklahoma City is widely regarded as a team that can do just about anything on the hardwood.

However, perhaps the main area of play that they've seemed to struggle in throughout this highly successful 2024-25 campaign is in the free throw department.

Despite registering the second-most drives per game as a collective the Thunder find themselves hoisting up shots from the charity stripe at the second-lowest average of just 19.5 attempts a night.

This disparity has been something noted ad nauseam by both fans and players alike throughout the season, but especially by Jalen Williams who has been extremely vocal about pointing out his personal struggles to generate foul shots.

His latest comments on the matter ironically came after tying his season-high in free throw attempts (eight) against the Washington Wizards on Sunday night, though, with a devious smirk, acknowledged that there were still plenty of shots that could have (and, in his eyes, should have) been taken.

Thunder stud Jalen Williams continues to call out lack of foul calls

"I feel like I could have shot more than the eight but we'll take eight," Williams said with a smile. "I'm just trying to get there and also make them when I get there."

As things currently stand, Williams ranks 17 in the league in drives per game with 13.5 a night. However, on average he only shoots a mediocre 3.6 attempts per game from the charity stripe.

To put this into perspective, J-Dub is one of only three players (including Dejounte Murray and Darius Garland) who rank within the top 20 in drives per game this season to see fewer than 4.0 free throw attempts per game.

Of course, despite this clear discrepancy in foul calls drawn compared to his cohorts, the Thunder forward admitted during this same interview that he's no longer focused on getting a whistle, as he noted: "If they call it... so be it. It's about constantly going."

Fortunately, this lack of attention from the officiating crew hasn't negatively impacted Jalen Williams from an all-around production standpoint, as he finds himself amid a career-best campaign in Oklahoma City.

Through 38 games played the forward is posting impressive averages of 20.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, 5.2 assists, 1.7 steals, and just shy of a block while shooting 47.7 percent from the floor.

The 23-year-old has been a true godsend for the Thunder throughout this injury-plagued season, and, without him, there's a strong chance that they wouldn't be far and away the top seed in the Western Conference standings.

Hopefully his level of play will help lead him to San Francisco for this year's All-Star Game... and, with it, the All-Star calls that come with such an achievement.
