Though there may be a growing belief that Lu Dort's tenure with the OKC Thunder could, and should, be coming to an end following their recent elimination from the Western Conference Finals, the veteran doesn't appear to be willing to leave town without a fight.

During his end-of-season press conference, Dort discussed his future outlook with Oklahoma City. The All-Defensive talent spoke glowingly about the organization as a whole, and said point-blank, "I want to stay here."

"This organization and this city really shaped me as a person and as a player," Dort said. "This is like a home to me."

Throughout his seven seasons in the association, Dort has established himself not only as a defensive anchor for Oklahoma City but also as one of the foundational pieces of their dynasty-pushing culture.

Unfortunately, as the organization actively searches for ways to avoid second-apron penalties next season, cutting ties with him and his $17.7 million club option seems to be the most logical way for Sam Presti and company to shed some substantial coin from their payroll.

Frankly, following his lackluster playoff performance, some are arguing it to also be the easiest decision this front office could make this coming summer.

Re-signing with Thunder tabbed as 'nightmare' scenario for Lu Dort

While Dort clearly wishes to remain with the Thunder, perhaps a parting of ways could actually be the best move for him.

That's what FanSided's Michael Shearer recently argued, as he labeled Oklahoma City as a "nightmare" landing spot for the 27-year-old this summer.

The fact of the matter is, the Thunder have an overabundance of players at his poition that provide similar contributions to him while registering in at both a younger age and a much more affordable pay-rate.

Because of this, Shearer believes that by remaining in the Sooner State, Dort would simply be met with a diminished role within the rotation due to the simple fact that he'd be surrounded by a bevy of other players who are deserving of increased action.

By departing from the Thunder, Dort would almost certainly have an easier time making a significant, standout impact, with Shearer specifically suggesting a team like the LA Clippers could be an ideal club to provide him with such an opportunity.

Whether it's via unrestricted free agency or the trade market, should OKC and their beloved vet part ways this offseason, it's safe to assume that he'll have no shortage of prospective buyers vying for his services.
