While almost all eyes are turned toward the Oklahoma City Thunder's upcoming playoff run, there are a few that are keeping their peripheral vision on the 2026 NBA Draft.
With March Madness having reached the conclusion of its first weekend, draft season has truly begun. Players have had and will continue to have the opportunity to drastically alter their draft stock between now and the conclusion of the tournament.
For the Thunder, who could wind up with as many as three first-round picks even after they sent Houston's selection away in the trade for Jared McCain, the draft takes on an outsized importance. They will likely lose the Utah Jazz's pick to its top-eight protections. But they are still poised to have a top-15 selection depending on the final result of the Los Angeles Clippers' season.
This draft is so deep that even a selection in that range could yield them a massively exciting prospect. In FanSided's recent 2026 NBA Mock Draft, drawn up by Christopher Kline, they get exactly that, nabbing Michigan star Yaxel Lendeborg at 15th overall with the Clippers' pick.
Yaxel Lendeborg would be a dream come true for the Thunder
It's not likely that the Thunder keep all of their first-round picks for 2026. The sheer depth of their roster won't allow for it.
But they'll need to re-shuffle their roster in order to avoid the second-apron penalties they're facing with the extensions for Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren. If they keep one of their higher first-round selections, they need a player who can contribute immediately to the rotation.
According to Kline, Lendeborg would represent that and then some.
"OKC can hope Lendeborg settles into an immediate 15-20 minute role with the second unit, adding a bit more size and versatility in the frontcourt behind the likes of Chet Holmgren, Isaiah Hartenstein and Jalen Williams. Lendeborg can switch one through five, he's a smart help defender, and he rebounds prolifically. On the other end, he can hit spot 3s, run DHOs with OKC's guards, pass on the short roll, and occasionally free-style with force and touch in the mid-range or post."- Christopher Kline
Lendeborg has been spectacular this season playing in Michigan's super-sized rotation. Through 36 games, he's averaged 14.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 3.2 assists while knocking down 36.1% of his shots from beyond the arc.
With the departure of Kenrich Williams potentially looming this offseason, Lendeborg would represent a massive upgrade in the frontcourt. At 6'9" and 230 lbs, he has the size and the versatility to slot in immediately at the NBA level and be an impactful rebounder and scorer.
Oklahoma City can only hope the draft chips fall this way.
