Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Oklahoma City Thunder may have another super team to deal with in the Western Conference at some point soon. According to Kevin O’Connor of Yahoo Sports, the Golden State Warriors want to bring both LeBron James and Anthony Davis to town so they can play alongside Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.
Obviously, that would be a very, very old super team, but all of those guys play at a high enough level for it to be considered a super team nonetheless. If that plan comes to fruition, SGA and the Thunder would have even more competition in the Western Conference, which is already stacked to the brim with talent.
That definitely wouldn’t be ideal.
New-look Warriors would make Thunder's life harder
Even if the Warriors do end up landing James and Davis, the Thunder would still probably be favored to win the West ahead of them. It would still probably be the San Antonio Spurs and Thunder atop the Western Conference favorites.
But don’t count out the hypothetical James-Davis-Curry-led Warriors just because they would be old. All three of those guys – and Green – are still capable of winning in this NBA.
Curry is still the greatest shooter of all-time, and that alone makes him an elite talent. His performance in the Play-In Game this past year (the one against the LA Clippers) was evidence enough that he can still compete in the playoffs.
As for James, just look at what he did against the Houston Rockets in the first round. With Luka Doncic sidelined, he and Austin Reaves managed to take down the Rockets and bring the Lakers to the second round.
That’s where they met the Thunder. James and the Lakers got swept by SGA and the Thunder. But if James were to join the Warriors, things would be different.
Not only would James and Davis be reunited, but more importantly, Curry would also be playing alongside them. And that would make a massive difference.
That type of spacing next to James and Davis would be absolutely elite. Plus, the Warriors would probably keep hold of some of their depth.
It would be a very tough team to beat, and one the Thunder would definitely have to worry about seeing in the playoffs at some point.
If nothing else, James and Davis teaming back up in Golden State would make life just that much harder for the Thunder next year as they attempt to win a title.
