OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – APRIL 23: Oklahoma City Thunder fans cheer for Russell Westbrook /

2. Russell Westbrook isn’t leaving Oklahoma City.

I understand that many people are freaking out that Russell Westbrook might leave the Oklahoma City Thunder to go play for the Los Angeles Lakers with Paul George. Let me be clear, Westbrook isn’t going to leave Oklahoma City. I’m telling you after everything that has happened over the last year, Westbrook would be the most cold-hearted person in history to bail on this team and city.

More from Thunderous Intentions

I just can’t imagine that after the way Kevin Durant left this city that Westbrook would do the same. The odds of that are astronomical. If Paul George leaves for Los Angeles, it happens. But, we don’t need to loop Westbrook into that category. While some people are wondering why Westbrook hasn’t signed his extension yet, OKC GM Sam Presti is out building a contender. Let’s focus on the Oklahoma City Thunder’s chances for next season rather than the departure of Westbrook and George.

Next season will be special for both players. For Westbrook a chance to beat Golden State just one time. Even if Golden State is still sitting on top of the West, having George gives the Oklahoma City Thunder a shot at beating them in their three to four meetings. For George, he’ll have a chance to have a breakout season with another superstar beside him. These two elements alone will help both players build something special here.
