No. 13: Memphis Grizzlies – Grizz

Grizz the Grizzly is a hairy grizzly bear who’s 2011 Mascot of the Year bid is the only accolade I could find to Grizz’s name. Griz is a by the numbers, overgrown, under shaved, grizzly bear. I think it is awful that his parents would let him leave the house without a proper haircut.

Young whippersnappers nowadays think they’re too cool for a haircut. I think Grizz is great at performing. However, with the exception of his costume, his appearance is extremely generic. Even with his crowd-pleasing antics, he can’t get a higher spot on my list.

A little trivia and insight on Grizz the mascot is he originated in Vancouver, Canada which would explain why a Grizzly Bear is the mascot for a team in Memphis Tennessee. Grizz also underwent cosmetic changes by virtue of a diet and turned from more of a comedic mascot into the high flyer who hits the hardwood at FedExForum.
