Kiwi connection in OKC:

The Thunder has a strong connection to both New Zealand and the NBL. Kiwi Steven Adams is now in his seventh year with the franchise. Thunder wing, Ferguson also decided to forgo College to play in the NBL with the Adelaide 36ers in 2016 before being drafted by the Thunder. So there is a sense of familiarity and Ferguson will relate to what Hampton has gone through.

This year Ferguson has mentored Bazley despite the only two-year age difference and it looks like he’ll continue to lead new players as they join the league.

CP3 leadership:

Chris Paul is arguably the best leader in the game. Danilo Gallinari stated that he’s the best leader he’s played with throughout his NBA career.

Being under the guidance of CP3 even for a couple of years will no doubt be invaluable for Hampton. The future Hall of Famer has shown nothing but class and willingness to mentor his fellow teammates not just on the court but also away from it.

Not many rookies get the chance to have players of Paul’s caliber mentor them and teach them the ins and outs of being an NBA player. This would be a tremendous opportunity for Hampton and a head start to his career.
