OKC Thunder offseason improvement No. 1) Work on his passing game

Dort had two main ways of scoring last season. He drove the ball into the paint or he shot the ball from beyond the arc. He took 23.3 percent of his shots from between 0-3 feet of the hoop. He also took 19.6 percent of his shots from between three and ten feet.

He made 59.6 percent of his shots from the restricted area. The number went down to 29.6 from between the three and ten feet. Dort is so strong that he should be able to make a higher number from the restricted area. On top of that, if he gets to ten feet or less, defenders press on him.

The reason for this is that he is intent on making his shot, not passing the ball to an open man. If he was to do this then he would create doubt in the mind of the defense. This would have the potential to create the little bit of space required to get an even higher percentage shot.

This will add a level of polish to the very raw nature of Dort’s offensive game. This will also open up the paint for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to be able to penetrate with one of his customary drives.
