OKC Thunder offseason improvement No. 2) Improve his free throws

Dort, thanks to his driving, was able to draw contact when shooting close to the hoop. This meant that he got to the line an impressive 3.2 times per game. This was up from 1.5 times per game in his rookie season, thanks to his increased role in the offense.

The problem for Dort and the Thunder is that he only converted 74.4 percent of his 164 free throws. As the Thunder add more talent to their roster, there is a good chance that his role in the offense will decrease. As a result, he needs to maximize every possession where he is in a position to score.

If he is able to make more than 80 percent of his free throws then players are not going to want to foul him. While this is not a huge jump in percentage, the margins in the NBA are minuscule and the extra point that this will give the Thunder may mean the difference between winning and losing.

On top of that, when the Thunder gets the talent that is coming to them through the drafts and potential trades, Dort will have the ability to help these players out. If he is tough to stop on offense, including at the free-throw line, then the opposition will not be able to focus their defense on the younger players, helping them develop confidence.
